Tom Cruise Perform In His New Movie With Paula Patton: EW has confirmed that Paula Patton (Precious) has signed onto the new Mission: Impossible movie as the female lead. (Deadline.com first reported the story.) According to a source close to the film — which stars Tom Cruise and Jeremy Renner, is produced by Cruise and J.J. Abrams, and will be directed by Brad Bird (The Incredibles) — it will not be a “reboot” as has been reported, but it won’t be titled Mission: Impossible IV  either.

As for Patton, she’s reportedly playing an up-and-coming agent working with Cruise’s Ethan Hunt. But since the film’s plot will likely remain locked in a pressure-temperature-and-sound-sensitive vault until much closer to the movie’s expected Dec. 16, 2011 release, Patton’s character could be anything from Keri Russell’s character in the Abrams directed Mission: Impossible III (i.e. a platonic teammate), to Emmanuelle Béart’s role from 1996′s Mission: Impossible (i.e. a seductress and double agent). So let’s wildly speculate and write Patton’s first scene.

Hollywood legend Tom Cruise is reportedly taking a pay cut in order to star in the fourth installment to the 'Mission:

Impossible' franchise directed by 'The Incredibles' director Brad Bird. The pay cut on 'M:I 4' is due to the disappointing takings at the box office of Tom's new action comedy.

'Knight And Day' in which he reteams with the lovely Cameron Diaz, although it has been well documented over the past couple of years that Cruise is no longer the box office draw he used to be.

A few days ago, we reported that Guillermo del Toro (Hellboy, Pan's Labyrinth) has signed on to direct "At The Mountains of Madness," which is an adaptation of the HP Lovecraft tale. NY Magazine is reporting that boarding the project meant dropping out of a new "Van Helsing" film, which del Toro was also rumored to helm.

The plan was not to remake the 2004 Hugh Jackman film, but to base it on the same fictional character from Bram Stoker's "Dracula." Tom Cruise was planning to produce and possibly star. At this point he is still attached, but del Toro is no longer involved with the project. Cruise is now searching for a new helmer.

Vulture  says before Guillermo Del Toro found his rosebud this week, his treatment for a new Van Helsing movie at Universal had surprisingly caught the attention of Tom Cruise, who was reportedly set to produce and potentially star.

I say surprisingly, but then we all know Cruise is desperate to win a place back in the hearts and minds of the public [the only reason he is making a Les Grossman comedy], and what better way to achieve that than to add the large tweeny vampire group to your box office figures?

He seems to be the same young man who would train for 12 hours a day to co-star with Paul Newman in The Color of Money, in 1986.

It doesn't quite work, the title Knight and Day, this Tom Cruise-Cameron Diaz spy-thriller-chase-romantic comedy question mark.

(The question: Are its toothsome stars still box-office gold, or has their audience moved on?) It's got a generic ring, and while half the title ultimately gets explained, the other half is a lame pun.

Huh? As different as night and day? It's like one of those made-up movies that Elaine and Jerry would go see on Seinfeld.

Remember last year, we’d told you how Gerard Butler had come to India to location hunt for Mission: Impossible 4? While everyone thought he was here with some friends to explore Jaipur and catch up with ‘good friend’ Priyanka Chopra, he actually had serious work on his agenda too - scouting for locations for his next film, starring Tom Cruise.

Looks like Gerard has done his homework, for, if all goes according to plan, part of Mission: Impossible 4 will be shot in Jaipur, and other parts of India as well. Says a source, “Director Brad Bird is hunting for locations in India and has asked for some photographs of a few selected locations in Jaipur to be sent to him. He has almost zeroed in on Hotel Shiv Vilas in Jaipur.

Tom Cruise has confirmed Brad Bird will direct "Mission: Impossible IV" and Edgar Wright will write the script. "I dig Edgar. Very nice guy, very smart, very talented. I'd really like to do something with him," contactmusic.com quoted Cruise as saying.

"I met Edgar on the set of 'Mission: Impossible III'- Simon Pegg and those guys are hilarious. I love 'Shaun of the Dead'. It's amazing. But we're working on Brad right now. I don't know if I'm allowed to talk about it but everything's signed. Brad is doing it."

The 47-year-old actor is looking forward to starting work on the project which has a preliminary release date of May 2011. "Star Trek" director J.J. Abrams is also working on the film as a writer but no storyline details have yet been confirmed," he added.

Paramount Pictures has set a Dec. 16, 2011 release date for "Mission: Impossible 4."  Tom Cruise will make.
